Drug investigation leads to seizure of 16 kilos of cocaine, nearly $200K across Suffolk County

Some 16 kilograms of cocaine and a large amount of cash were seized from multiple spots in Suffolk County following a lengthy investigation, according to Massachusetts State Police.An MSP spokesperson said the seizure came after federal and local authorities executed a search warrant at a residence in Revere on Monday. Branching outside of the residence, officials found “approximately 16 kilograms of cocaine and a large amount of cash from multiple locations in Suffolk County,” according to MSP Director of Media Communications Dave Procopio. Procopio noted the total amount of cash added up to $190,750 and was the result of an investigation launched earlier in the year by state troopers assigned to the State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County District. The fate of renewed rent control efforts in Boston is about to land firmly and completely on the shoulders of the Democrats who control state government. City councilors on Wednesday approved Mayor Michelle Wu’s bid to institute a cap on rent increases in the city nearly three decades after voters prohibited the practice statewide. The vote will send the home rule petition to a Legislature whose leaders have shown littler interest in rent control over the years. The council voted 11-2 in favor of Wu’s measure, which would ban covered landlords from raising rents more than 10 percent annually in the highest-inflation years and implement several other tenant protections. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has issued an arrest warrant for a man believed to be involved in the kidnapping of Elnaz Hajtamiri, who was forcibly taken from a home in Wasaga Beach over a year ago.On Monday, police in York Region charged a fifth person connected to a separate frying-pan attack on Hajtamiri that occurred at an underground garage in Richmond Hill in December 2021.On Jan. 12, 2022, at around 8:30 p.m., less than a month after the frying-pan attack, police say Hajtamiri was abducted from a residence in Wasaga Beach by three suspects dressed in police costumes.In an update from provincial police, investigators say they have identified one of those suspects as 35-year-old Deshawn Davis of Toronto, who remains wanted.An arrest warrant has been issued for Deshawn Davis, 35, of Toronto.
