American researcher rescued from deep Turkish cave more than a week after he fell ill

TASELI PLATEAU, Turkey (AP) — Rescuers pulled Mark Dickey, an American researcher, out of a Turkish cave on Monday, more than a week after he became seriously ill more than 3,000 feet below its entrance, said the Speleological Federation of Turkey.Teams from across Europe had rushed to Morca cave in southern Turkey’s Taurus Mountains to aid Mark Dickey, a 40-year-old experienced caver who became seriously ill on Sept. 2 with stomach bleeding. Lee, a Category 3 storm, unleashes heavy waves on northern Caribbean

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (WFLA) — Hurricane Lee whipped up waves of more than 15 feet on Monday as the Category 3 storm cranked through open waters just north of the Caribbean region.The storm is not expected to make landfall this week, although forecasters said residents of New England and nearby areas should keep a close eye on Lee, whose future path is uncertain. It was located about 380 miles north of the northern Leeward Islands. It had winds of up to 115 mph (185 kph) and was moving northwest at 7 mph. Medics said a person was reported to be unconscious.Travis County Starflight also responded to the scene, medics said.The adult, who was not identified Monday, was removed, and medics said CPR was performed. However, the person was later pronounced dead on the scene, medics said.Drivers should expect traffic delays as roads remain closed for investigation. No other information was released Monday.

Texas DPS said 'no major issues' on first day driver license offices reopen

AUSTIN (KXAN) — After a nearly weeklong closure, Texas driver license offices reopened Monday. Appointments were canceled Sept. 5-8 for a driver license system upgrade, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The upgrade was required for Texas to be REAL ID compliant. DPS said affected customers will get priority rebooking, and its goal is to accommodate those affected in the next two to three weeks or at the customer's earliest convenience. Driver license offices in "high volume areas" will have extended hours to accommodate rebooked appointments for the short term, DPS said. A Minneapolis woman has been convicted of criminal vehicular homicide in connection with a 2021 crash on a St. Paul interstate ramp that killed her 19-year-old passenger.Ramsey County District Judge Reynaldo Aligada Jr. found Reshawna Eunique Mosley, 21, guilty of criminal vehicular homicide by operating a motor vehicle in a grossly negligent manner and criminal vehicular homicide with negligence while under the influence of alcohol in the death of Shaterries Monique Barlow of Minneapolis on July 22, 2021.
