Three words that strike fear into the heart of low-cost airlines: Free cabin baggage.That’s what MEPs are pushing for in Strasbourg this week.Lawmakers voted Wednesday afternoon to support a resolution that calls for airlines to scrap fees for “reasonable” sized carry-on luggage, and standardize rules on the size of cabin bags.“You cannot commoditize a right, nor have a business model that inflates profits by dint of trampling on consumer rights,” said Spanish Renew MEP Jordi Cañas, who pushed for the free-of-charge element to be included in the resolution and said he was frustrated by carriers “repeatedly carrying out abusive practices against European citizens’ rights.”The resolution arrived before all MEPs following a vote in the Parliament’s Committee on Petitions. It calls for airlines to respect a 2014 ruling from the Court of Justice of the EU which says that cabin bags — provided they are of “reasonable” size and weight — are a “necessary aspect”...

Police searching for suspects in multiple armed carjackings in Salem, NH

Police are turning to the public for help as they search for two people behind a series of attempted armed carjackings and an armed carjacking in Salem, New Hampshire on Tuesday night, officials said.Haverhill police reported around 10 p.m. Tuesday that they had just pursued a white Kia on Route 97 westbound toward Salem but had stopped the pursuit prior to the New Hampshire state line, according to Salem, New Hampshire police.Soon after, police began receiving calls reported attempted carjackings involving a male and female who were armed with a rifle and driving a white car. The first two victims managed to escape attempted carjackings on Main Street but a third motorist was forced from her vehicle on Germonty Drive, according to police.She was not injured.The stolen vehicle is a black 2009 Toyota Camry with a New Hampshire tag 2260113. Oshawa man arrested after assaulting woman, barricading himself in home: police

A man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman before barricading himself inside a home in Oshawa earlier this week.Durham police say officers were called to a residence in the area of Park Road and Gibb Street around 12 a.m. Monday for reports of an assault.Officers found a female at the scene with minor injuries and she was removed from the home.Police allege the suspect was armed with weapons and barricaded himself in a bedroom of the residence. Officers negotiated with the man in attempt to get him to leave the room, but were unsuccessful.York Regional Police Service’s Emergency Response Unit were called in and were able to enter the room and take the suspect into custody without incident.Durham Regional Police say Oshawa resident Richard Charbonneau, 46, is being charged with assault and uttering death threats.The suspect was held for a bail hearing.

LONDON (AP) — British police have opened an investigation into corporate manslaughter at a northern England hospital after a neonatal nurse was convicted of murdering seven babies and trying to kill six others when she worked there, authorities said Wednesday. The investigation will consider “areas including senior leadership and decision making to determine whether any criminality has taken place,” said Simon Blackwell, detective superintendent at Cheshire Constabulary.Former nurse Lucy Letby, 33, was convicted in August of killing seven newborns in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital in northwest England between June 2015 and June 2016.
