Water cuts plan is enough to protect Colorado River: Interior Department

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Federal officials said Wednesday that conditions have improved on the Colorado River to the point that a plan by California, Arizona and Nevada to voluntarily reduce water use should help keep the river basin on stable footing for the next few years.The U.S. Department of the Interior said in a statement that the risk of reaching critically low water elevations at Lake Powell and Lake Mead, the river's two key reservoirs, has gone down substantially. The windy stretch continues, south Florida. It started back on Monday and has yet to peak. This means more days and nights with gusty conditions as winds arrive off the Atlantic (from the east-northeast). These strong winds have also been responsible for pulling-in a small amount of moisture from the ocean. Coastal areas, especially, have seen a few rain bands moving across the area. They don’t tend to cause any more than a nuisance since they move so quickly and don’t bring much accumulation. Weather changes will be hard to come by, as long as strong high pressure stays north of Florida. If anything, the setup could ease into the weekend. Winds (although still onshore) may tend to subside Sunday. That would make a near week-long wind event for the region! At that point, high pressure will be centered off the southeast coast of the United States, in weaker fashion. We’ll also be watching for the possibility of deeper moisture spinning our way. One person in custody after police standoff ends in Weymouth

One person is in custody after an hourslong police standoff at a home in Weymouth on Wednesday, police said.Weymouth police in a post on X around 3:30 p.m. said police were on scene on Putnam Street responding to a barricaded suspect. Police asked community members to stay away from the area. Overhead, SKY7-HD spotted several armed law enforcement officers working on the scene with heavy equipment and armored vehicles.  Shortly before 6:30 p.m., authorities were seen taking a person out of the home at the center of this incident on a stretcher.
