Rampart fire west of Colorado Springs mostly snuffed

A wildfire that broke out west of Colorado Springs within the burn scar from the 2012 Waldo Canyon fire has been mostly snuffed and firefighters who quickly surrounded it were monitoring hot spots early Wednesday.The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the Colorado Front Range mountain foothills and the eastern plains due to record heat, dry grass, wind and low humidity — conditions that favor fire.About 50 firefighters were deployed to suppress this Rampart fire, which burned about 20 acres of grass and Ponderosa pines, 2.5 miles southeast of Woodland Park, on U.S. Forest Service land in western El Paso County. The cause hasn’t been determined.An aircraft dropped water on the flames after the fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and, by 5:30 p.m., firefighters had placed a hose around it. Man fatally stabbed at Surfers Point in Ventura: Police

The Ventura Police Department is looking for the assailant who fatally stabbed a man at Surfers Point Tuesday evening.At about 7 p.m., Raymond Morales, 39, was found was stabbed multiple times in the chest and taken to the Ventura County Medical Center, where he succumbed to his wounds, police said in a news release. Investigators believe "two suspects approached the victim near a picnic table and were involved in an altercation prior to the stabbing," the release said.The alleged assailants then ran to the parking lot of Surfers Point and left in their vehicle headed north on Figueroa Street.The investigation is ongoing, and the attack may be gang-related, police said.Anyone with information or with possible video footage of the incident is asked to call Detective Avila at 805-339-4478.

SZA expands SOS Tour; L.A. dates added

SZA fans who missed out on her popular SOS Tour are now in luck. Just a few weeks removed from playing the Kia Forum in Inglewood, the "Kill Bill" singer announced a stretch of new tour dates through North America later this year, including a European run in June. SZA returns to L.A. for two nights, Oct. 22 and 23, but this time at Crypto.com Arena. Doors open at 7 p.m. Showtime is set for 8 p.m.The European leg of the tour kicks off June 1 in Amsterdam's Ziggo Dome and then will make stops in Paris, Berlin, London and more before wrapping up in Dublin at 3Arena on June 21.British singer-songwriter Raye will be joining the songstress in Europe.The tour returns to North America on Sept. 20 in Miami at Kaseya Center, making stops in Brooklyn, Houston, Los Angeles and more before wrapping up in Phoenix at Footprint Center on Oct. 29. Feds propose reducing Colorado River water to California, Nevada and Arizona in “shot across the bow”

U.S. Bureau of Reclamation officials are considering whether to order Arizona, California and Nevada to take less water out of the drying Colorado River, effectively flexing their muscles over a problem they had hoped the states would solve themselves.In the coming weeks, federal officials must decide whether to impose cuts on the three lower Colorado River Basin states by either following the longstanding system of water-rights seniority or by spreading them across three states evenly.
