SF Giants’ Arizona Fall League participants headlined by 2 first-round picks

The San Francisco Giants are sending eight prospects to the Arizona Fall League, baseball’s annual six-week molding ground for young players, with the group headlined by a pair of recent first-round draft picks.The most notable name, and one of the most intriguing prospects across the AFL, is Reggie Crawford, the two-way player San Francisco selected 30th overall last July. Crawford, who returned from Tommy John surgery this season to pitch in 13 games with 2.84 ERA between Single-A San Jose and High-A Eugene, will exclusively serve as a hitter in the fall.Crawford, 22, logged 19 innings on the mound but only 17 at-bats, recording four hits, including his first home run at a full-season affiliate. His hitting was all but shut down following his promotion, and now in the AFL will shift gears. SAN JOSE — Willow Glen football coach Oscar Caballero has been suspended and won’t lead his team at home on Friday against Overfelt as the San Jose Unified School District continues investigating a sideline incident last week involving a crew member holding the yard markers.In an email to the Bay Area News Group on Friday, district spokesperson Jennifer Maddox wrote, “The head coach has been suspended from coaching duties during the investigation and will not be coaching at the Willow Glen High game tonight. (KRON) -- A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in San Jose Friday morning, according to the San Jose Police Department.At 10:31 a.m., San Jose PD responded to the 2000 block of Fruitdale Avenue after a fatal collision involving a vehicle and a man, police said.Investigators will be on scene for several hours, the department said. New pilot study in Northern Va. will screen firefighters for cancer risks

Their work is already dangerous — but firefighters also face an increased risk of certain types of cancer. Now, a Northern Virginia hospital is preparing to launch a new pilot program aiming to increase early cancer screening for firefighters in the D.C. area.The pilot study will be run by Inova’s Saville Cancer Screening and Prevention Center and Inova Occupational Health.Dr. Rebecca Kaltman, executive director of the Saville Center, said the study will include intensive screening, including scans, as well as some more novel tools, such as “liquid biopsies,” which are blood tests that “can detect cancer on the earlier side,” she told WTOP.When it is up and running, the study will seek to enroll firefighters from across the D.C. area who are over 35 years or who have more than 10 years of service as a firefighters. DENVER (AP) — The Colorado judge overseeing the first significant lawsuit to bar former President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 presidential ballot on Friday issued a protective order prohibiting threats and intimidation in the case, saying the safety of those involved — including herself and her staff — was necessary as the groundbreaking litigation moves forward. “I 100% understand everybody’s concerns for the parties, the lawyers, and frankly myself and my staff based on what we’ve seen in other cases,” District Judge Sarah B. Wallace said as she agreed to the protective order.The order prohibits parties in the case from making threatening or intimidating statements.
